Ethiopian Institute for Agricultural Research

EIAR will engage in greenhouse and field trials to test the two product concepts. It will coordinate research with the Regional Agricultural Research Institutions (RARIs), and the Regional Bureaus of Agriculture (RBoAs) to participate in field trials and wide-scale demonstrations and popularization of the microbial technology for Striga control. In EIAR, the following people will be involved:

Taye Tessema - Principal Investigator

Taye is a senior research weed scientist in the EIAR

Derara Jote - Lab Technician

Derara will work on high-through-put bioassays at the National Agricultural Biotechnology Research Centre (NABRC) based at Holleta, and assist in small scale field trials.

Getahun Mitiku - Agronomist

Getahun will work in selection, chemical characterization and testing of the local methionine-rich substrates of plant and animal origin.

Urgesa Tsega – Biotechnologist

Urgesa will work on greenhouse and field testing of the local methionine-rich substrates for their efficacy to control Striga and promote sorghum growth.

Mamo Bekele - Microbiologist

Mamo will test selected isolates for their efficacy to control Striga under greenhouse and in small-scale field trials.
